Michael, a Certified Public Accountant with the Goodfellow & Company CPA firm in DeLand, Florida, moved to west Volusia County in 2000. He became active in City affairs as a committee member on the Orange City Water Sustainability Committee, and he eventually was selected as Chairman of this committee.

 He holds two bachelors degrees from Excelsior College, Albany, New York. The first bachelors degree is in meteorology and Spanish, which Michael speaks with near-native fluency; in his second bachelors degree, Michael majored in accounting and graduated Summa Cum Laude. He also earned a masters degree in Public Administration from Golden Gate University, San Francisco, California.

 Prior to his accounting career, Captain Michael Wright served in the Air Force as a meteorologist, where he provided weather support for operations ranging from anti-drug operations in the Amazon Jungle in South America to Space Shuttle operations in Florida's Space Coast. Michael plays the flute in his church’s orchestra. He is married to Dalys, who is an active volunteer with Hospice; and they have one son, Steven.
