Animal Control Services for Orange City:
Selected law enforcement officers assigned to the Community Improvement Unit have attended State of Florida recognized animal related training to include Animal Control Officer training and chemical immobilization training. Officers promote responsible pet ownership and enforce both local ordinances and Florida State Statutes such
as pet registration requirements, responsible pet ordinance, dangerous dog classification investigation and crimes against animals. Additionally officers investigate animal bites/exposures in cooperation with other agencies and the Volusia County Health Department.
Animal control officials may trap or take custody of at-large animals found on public owned land (parks, roadways, etc.); domesticated animals that appear lost/injured; or the lawful quarantine of an animal when such taking is plainly evident for
the immediate welfare of the animal or the public.

Private Property Trapping:
Persons and companies who wish to trap an animal on their respective property may do so when careful consideration is given to ensure all applicable local, state or federal laws are followed regarding the trapping and subsequent retention/release/disposal of the animal. The City of Orange City cannot assume custody or assist in the release of any animal trapped by an individual or company.
Domestic and Feral Animal:
Removal or relocating of nuisance domesticated or feral animals such as a cat or dog located on private property are the responsibility of the property owner. The City of Orange City, employees or agents
do not recommend or endorse any specific trapper. The vast majority of trappers charge a fee for their services. Comparison shopping is recommended.
Wildlife:
Removal or relocating of nuisance wildlife such as snake, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, alligator, etc located on private property are the responsibility of the property owner. Alligators are considered a nuisance when they are more than four feet in length, and are determined to be a threat to the welfare of the public, or the public’s pets, livestock, or property.
